Heya Dekkoo-ers! Hope you’ve all been having a good week. Mine started off great via a Facebook Live stream of the annual Naval Academy freshman graduation ceremony where they attempt to climb a greased up monument shirtless. You can’t take your eyes off the struggle!

This week I want to continue the sexy vibes with two visually inventive and wild films starting with ‘We Are Animals‘.

The short film by director Dominic Haxton (we’ll be introducing you to many of his great short works in the next weeks) takes place in a dystopian future society where HIV positive citizens have been quarantined from the rest of society and given pills that keep their libidos in check. The main character has reluctantly joined with the oppressive government not so dissimilar to the Jews that helped out in the concentration camps, but once he meets a sexy member of the opposition his allegiance starts to shift.

I really love how this short film is able to set-up so much mood and world-building in such a short amount of time. Of course it really helps that the two main characters have such an sexy and radical rapport that deals with sexual confidence, the oppressed conquering the oppressor, and releasing the inner animal. A little ultra-violence also goes a long way too! Oh and a Drew Droege cameo is always hawt.

After the climactic ending to ‘Animals’ it’s time for a Gay Classic! When Todd Stephens made ‘Gypsy 83’, the follow-up to the honest and charming ‘Edge of Seventeen’, he encountered film distributors and executives saying either ‘It’s too gay!’ or ‘It’s not gay enough!’. Todd had so much difficulty with the film that he decided that he was going to
make the gayest film ever! Enter ‘Another Gay Movie‘. Todd Stephen’s answer to straight raunchy pics like ‘American Pie’ and ‘Porky’s’ turned out to be a massive hit. It turns out that gay people were dying for a film that tossed the typical gay coming-of-age plot-line out the window and embraced a more gross and wild narrative that felt like the ‘R’-Rated movies that straight people got to see all the time.

It also helps that the movie followed an adorable group of graduating high school seniors that decided they need to lose their virginity by the end of the summer. There’s Andy – your typical awkward everyman that has an obsession with sticking stuff up his butt. Jarrod – the jock of the group who claims he’s a total top and has some insecurities. Nico – the ‘leading lady’ of the group who’s always able to cheer everyone up and Griff – the nerd of the group that logically tries to get laid. Of course there are so many hilarious side-characters and cameos. A few highlights: Graham Norton as Mr. Puckov, Scott Thompson (‘The Kids in the Hall’) as Andy’s dad, Daryl Stephens as a hot go-go boy, and Richard Hatch as Richard Hatch.

DEKKOO DISPATCH 015 – ‘I’M FINE’

Title – ‘I’m Fine

Director – Brandon Kirby

Starring – Perry Powell, Lee Doud, Shaughn Buchholz, Ulysses Morazan

Release Date – April 19, 2017

________________________

Hey all! So we’ve been hyping our new original series, ‘I’m Fine‘ to you for a while now and the moment has finally come to premiere the first four episodes of Season 1! At Dekkoo we’re constantly on the hunt for new filmmakers working in the LGBTQ spectrum and the director of ‘I’m Fine‘ is a perfect example of what we’re striving for. This series is the directorial debut of Brandon Kirby whose work in the film industry with both Outfest and Strand Releasing showcases a clear passion for the world of queer cinema.

The premise for ‘I’m Fine‘ centers around Nate who’s going through a tough post-breakup phase and relies on his friends Jeff, Andy, and Brian for emotional support. In the first four episodes alone we witness rebound sex, drunken confessions of love, reunions with BFFs, shrieking homosexuals, awkward phone calls, and most importantly – mimosas.

When I asked the director more about his motivations behind creating ‘I’m Fine‘ he responded thus: ‘My motivation to make the series is the end of ‘Looking,’ and how, though we have options among the digital space, there is not a series dedicated solely to the experience of the LGBT community where they are experiencing friendships and relationships — and at the forefront. And beyond what even ‘Looking’ was able to achieve, I want to open up a conversation on gay male friendship in the way recent works such as ‘Frances Ha’ and ‘Broad City’ have explored the fluidity found within female friendship. These stories aren’t being told when there’s so much to tell.’

We’re calling ‘I’m Fine‘ our very first, ‘pocket series’ because the episodes were designed to be short. It’s a series you can take with you on the go! The first four episodes are available now. Episodes 5 through 8 will launch June 21 and we’re already in pre production for season 2!

Make sure to let us know what you think, tell all your friends, and most importantly…enjoy!

DEKKOO DISPATCH 010 – ‘DROPPING THE SOAP’

Title – ‘Dropping the Soap

Director – Ellie Kanner

Starring – Paul Witten, Kate Mines, Suzanne Friedline, Jane Lynch

Release Date – March 7, 2017

_________________________________

Today, Dekkoo presents ‘Dropping the Soap‘. A hilarious 10 episode TV series that presents a highly satirical view of what goes on behind the scenes of filming the ‘hit’ soap opera Collided Lives.

I literally could not stop watching episode after episode of this series once I started. Talk about a binge! The episodes leave you hungry for more of what hi-jinks the main character Julian Draker (Paul Witten – also a co-writer of the show) will get himself into.

After ratings begin to plummet on the long-running soap, Olivia Vanderstein (played with surgical precision by the always formidable Jane Lynch) steps in to take over the management of the show. At the beginning of each episode we get a taste of what audiences see watching the TV show and then immediately get thrown into the chaos of the lives of the cast and crew. Now we don’t really want to give anything away, but this is a gay channel and so let’s just throw it out there that the show does get quite gay as it goes along.

There are so many fantastic cameos that kept me jumping on my couch with joy. John Michael Higgins (Best in Show) plays a depressed commercial director, Diedrich Bader (Veep) plays an old flame of Julian’s, and even Ben Bauer (Hunting Season, Shirtless Dudes Book Club) gets a fun role as one of Olivia’s incredibly disposable personal assistants. Throw that in with hilariously offensive jokes that poke fun at everything and everyone and more than a few bare-chested hotties and I was hooked!

Guys, you really need to drop what your doing and binge ‘Dropping the Soap‘ right now!

Bend over daytime, ‘Dropping the Soap’ arrives March 7.

We are proud to announce that on March 7, a truly gut-busting 10-part series starring Paul Witten and Jane Lynch will debut on Dekkoo.

Dropping the Soap‘ goes behind-the-scenes of the long-running (awful) soap-opera “Collided Lives:. As the program struggles to stay afloat, a new Executive Producer named Olivia Vanderstein (played by the always hilarious Jane Lynch) shows up to shake things up. While the cast and crew desperately try to hold things together, Julian Drake (the soap’s leading man of “questionable talent and moral compass”) struggles to keep his personal life private and his cast members employed.

This is a show that we can not wait to share with you. All episodes will be available March 7. In the meantime, click on the link below to check out the trailer.

DEKKOO DISPATCH 005 – ‘BABY JANE?’

Title – ‘Baby Jane?

Director – William Clift

Starring – Alotta Boutte, J. Conrad Frank, Matthew Martin, Vincent De Paul

Release Date – June 10, 2010

‘You wouldn’t be able to do these awful thing to me if I weren’t still in this chair!’

‘But you *are*, Blanche! You *are* in that chair!’

Ah ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane’…One of the undisputed camp classics of the sixties. The ultimate sibling rivalry film follows two sisters one of whom surpasses the other in stardom which leads to intense jealousy and eventually acts of violence. The original film from 1962 utilized two actresses who were also rivals, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford which added to its success with audiences.

Baby Jane?‘ a loving homage to the original takes an even more campy approach by casting the two leads as men in drag. With just as many hi-jinks and back-stabbings as the original, ‘Baby Jane?‘ will definitely make you think twice before trusting your crazy siblings!

Short films go a loooong way!

We love the short film format. Just like a short story, a short film forces the filmmaker to be concise and exact with the tale he or she wants to tell. And while a short film is just that – short, it does not diminish its ability to tell a great story.

So far this week we’ve added two short films to the Dekkoo library that we think you’ll enjoy.

The 6 Gays You’ll Date Before You Die‘ is a short that plays like a pseudo-public service announcement. It outlines the six types of guys every man will ultimately date before they finally choose to settle down. It’s hilarious, a bit goofy and sadly, completely accurate!

Buddy‘, a short film from The Netherlands (which we absolutely had to have in our library once we saw it), is more dramatic story of two friends, former lovers, who share a scary moment together.

Take a peek at both and consider what elements of the story are purposely excluded in favor of other pieces of information being included and how do those decisions help the humor, drama or action of the story.

DEKKOO DISPATCH 002 – ‘EATING OUT’

Title: Eating Out

Director – Q. Allan Brocka

Starring – Scott Lunsford, Jim Verraros, Emily Stiles, Ryan Carnes

Release Date – February 14, 2004

_____________________________________________________

Q. Allan Brocka is known for writing and directing some of the funniest and sexiest gay cinema in the 2000’s. From ‘Boy Culture‘ to ‘Rick and Steve the Happiest Gay Couple in All the World’ he’s managed to bridge the divide between low-budget film making and a damn funny movie.

He got his big break in 2004 with the now-classic camp comedy ‘Eating Out‘ which went on to become a gay franchise with four sequels! Four! How many other gay films have had that honor? I can’t think of any. Don’t worry, they will all be arriving on Dekkoo in the coming weeks.

Eating Out‘ stars Jim Verraros (an openly gay contestant from the first season of American Idol) as Kyle, a young gay boy who’s fallen head over heels for his straight roommate Caleb (how many of you out there have done that before?). He’s also in love with Marc, the mega-hottie gay at school and Gwen, Kyle’s right-hand gal and self-proclaimed bitch who can’t seem to stop dating gay guys. When Kyle pushes Caleb into pretending he’s gay so he can meet Marc things take a turn when Marc falls for Caleb.

But that’s really only a fraction of ‘Eating Out’s’ charms. Starting with the first installment, there’s always an incredibly spectacular (long) sex scene that involves someone remotely telling the participants what to do (don’t forget to use the magic word…). Also included in the price of admission is full frontal nudity, hilarious offensive jokes about the holocaust, and awkward family dynamics!

Watch it with: The biggest group of gay guys you can find and/or a hot date (you two won’t be able to make it past the sex scene without something happening…)

Mix it with: Appletinis!

90% laughs with 10% body fat!

Since 2010, producer/director J.C. Today, we’ve added volume 1 to our library so strip down, grab a towel and get ready for the steamiest gay web series ever made.

Finally…a gay James Bond!

Jayson Bend (also known as “Agent 009”) is an openly gay British super spy! Modeled completely after James Bond, he drives fast and plays hard – always with other hot boys. In this truly impressive parody/homage, the first in an on-going series, Jayson teams up with a sexy Swiss counterpart to try and stop the world’s largest global hair salon chain, and their nefarious CEO, from launching a satellite that will threaten the very fate of human existence.

This funny and sexy send-up of Ian Fleming’s iconic character is an instant classic. We can’t wait for more!

An adult superstar transforms in this musical-comedy-horror flick!

When closeted new kid Ricky O’Reilly (played by Sean Paul Lockhart better know as beloved adult film superstar Brent Corrigan) falls for Malibu High’s mysterious bad boy Talon (Anton Troy) love bites them on the ass as the two transform into bestial, leather daddy werebears!
