Michael (Michael Doshier), a lonely, gay singer-songwriter, has lost his way… and his voice. One night, he catches the attention of Georgie and Connor (Stanton Plummer-Cambridge and Tommy Heleringer), a married couple looking for something – or someone – to do.

A nonchalant hookup turns into a night of vulnerability that none of them expected. The couple challenges Michael to open up about his feelings – and even write some new songs along the way. For his part, Michael ignites a flicker in their marriage – one they they feared may be long gone.

Dekkoo Acquires Groundbreaking Gay Series ‘Boy Culture: Generation X’

We are thrilled to announce that Dekkoo has acquired the exclusive, worldwide distribution rights for Boy Culture: Generation X – the long-anticipated follow up to the 2006 gay indie hit from director Q. Allan Brocka and novelist Matthew Rettenmund!

This brand-new series will pick up the story ten years later. X (Derek Magyar), still a hardworking male escort, finds himself competing against younger trade in a dramatically changed marketplace. Luckily, Chayce (Jason Caceres), a Gen Z twink who is ruthlessly up to speed on selling sex in the digital age, is there to show X the ropes… but what is this demon twink’s agenda?

Meanwhile, as X struggles to keep his aging body fit and his unusual roster of clients happy, he is also trying to move on from ex-boyfriend Andrew (Darryl Stephens), with whom he, of course, still lives.

“I never dreamed, when I began writing what would become Boy Culture as a college kid, that the story would continue with a movie and now a series,” Rettenmund said. “Revisiting these characters with this incredible cast has been a joy. I am filled with pride over this latest exciting (trust me!) chapter in the saga, and am thrilled to have such a supportive partner in Dekkoo.”

“It’s been an amazing experience to reunite the whole team that made the original film,” added co-creator and director Brocka.

We can’t wait to share this new series with fans of the original film and with the world at large. Just as the gay community has evolved, so too has Boy Culture. This exciting sequel showcases an incredibly talented new cast of actors and captures the essence of contemporary gay life in all its complexities.

Boy Culture: Generation X will premiere on Dekkoo in Fall, 2023. You can read the press release below and make sure to keep checking back! We’ll be posting more news and updates as we get closer to the official launch!

Coming Soon To Dekkoo: Self Reflection in the Passenger’s Seat; “As I Sat in His Car”

Growing up queer in suburbia is the focus of the brutally honest short film “As I Sat in His Car”. Director Kalil Hadad reflects upon his own life and experiences to craft an intimate autobiographical piece of art.

As the protagonist of the film sits in another man’s car in the midst of a late night hook up, he begins to reflect upon his life and the significant moments that led him here.

He thinks back on his relationships with his parents, noticing other men for the first time, and the prejudices that have forever been a part of his life.

Hadad pulls from several different mediums to fully articulate his story including video, still photo collage, and even utilizing some “making of” footage. Hadad effortlessly illustrates the isolation and unknowing of coming to terms with your sexualtiy in a small town. The film shows how the lines between love and lust can blur especially amongst queer people and what such desires can do to relationships.

You can find “As I Sat in His Car”, (streaming August 25), along with another of Kalil Hadad’s short films “Farm Boy”, streaming on Dekkoo.

LOVE SICK AND LONGING IN HONG KONG

COMING SOON TO DEKKOO: I MISS YOU WHEN I SEE YOU

Director Simon Chung’s film, I Miss You When I See You, tells the story of a man’s struggle to find himself again after a battle with depression and the dangers of unrequited love.

We are first introduced to Jamie (played by Bryant Mak) who comes to visit his old school friend Kevin (played by Jun Li) who’s been battling depression alone in Australia. After learning that Jamie is moving back to Hong Kong, Kevin is compelled to follow him.

Kevin soon finds work in Hong Kong as an English teacher and sparks a relationship with a troubled student. What follows is a story of sexual exploration and fear of conforming to society’s expectations which concludes with an emotional display at a highschool reunion.

The film shines in its small intimate moments. The film’s stronger elements are really showcased when we are given an opportunity to simply sit and observe delicate moments between characters.

The real heart of the film lies in actor Jun Li. Li delivers an incredibly understated and nuanced performance as a man who is longing for companionship but unknowing where to look for it.
