‘Boy Culture’ is back with a brand-new Dekkoo-original series – Available Now!

From creators Q. Allan Brocka and Matthew Rettenmund, this brand-new, 6-episode Dekkoo-original series follows up the 2006 gay indie hit Boy Culture.

Boy Culture: Generation X picks up ten years after the original, following hard-working male escort X (Derek Magyar) as he finds himself up against a much younger generation – who have gained a competitive edge on the market.

X is soon taken under the wing of Chayce (Jason Caceres), a barely-legal twink who is ruthlessly up to speed on how to sell himself to clients in the digital age.

As he struggles to keep his aging body fit and his unusual roster of kinky clients happy, X is also dealing with the realities of living with his ex-boyfriend Andrew (Darryl Stephens), who is aiming to move on from the former romantic entanglement.

Returning to the format of the novel on which the original Boy Culture was based, each episode of this sexy series centers around a particular client from which X learns – or specifically fails to learn – a lesson.

Derek Magyar and Darryl Stephens, the stars of the original film, are back for this brand-new installment, surrounded by many adorable new faces.

Older, wiser and more incisive than ever, Boy Culture: Generation X has a lot to say about love, sex, relationships and aging gracefully in a culture that often values youthful good looks above all else.

A newly restored HD version of ‘Boy Culture’ is now available on Dekkoo!

Back in 2006, director and co-writer Q. Allan Brocka created a gorgeously textured gay indie film that not only explored the recesses of the human heart, but was charged with sex and filled with laughter.

Adapted from the outstanding novel by Matthew Rettenmund, Boy Culture tells the story of X (Derek Magyar), a high-end sex worker, and his two roommates Andrew and Joey (Darryl Stephens and Jonathan Trent).

Together, the three men have created a family for the 21st century. X is the head of the household who brings home the bacon and sets the tone. He has a serious crush on Andrew, who works at a video store and is waiting for the right man… and in Andrew’s opinion, a hustler is just not the right man. Joey is a 17-year-old whirlwind of trouble, but there’s really only one man he wants: X.

The sexual tension between the trio is palpable. With a mix of insight, wit and raunchy self-awareness, Boy Culture charmed gay audiences when it was released nearly two decades ago – and fans now have reason to get excited. Not only is the original Boy Culture back on Dekkoo, but there is a brand-new follow-up series in the works which will is now available to rent of buy from all the usual VOD services and will be streaming on Dekkoo early next year!

Dekkoo Acquires Groundbreaking Gay Series ‘Boy Culture: Generation X’

We are thrilled to announce that Dekkoo has acquired the exclusive, worldwide distribution rights for Boy Culture: Generation X – the long-anticipated follow up to the 2006 gay indie hit from director Q. Allan Brocka and novelist Matthew Rettenmund!

This brand-new series will pick up the story ten years later. X (Derek Magyar), still a hardworking male escort, finds himself competing against younger trade in a dramatically changed marketplace. Luckily, Chayce (Jason Caceres), a Gen Z twink who is ruthlessly up to speed on selling sex in the digital age, is there to show X the ropes… but what is this demon twink’s agenda?

Meanwhile, as X struggles to keep his aging body fit and his unusual roster of clients happy, he is also trying to move on from ex-boyfriend Andrew (Darryl Stephens), with whom he, of course, still lives.

“I never dreamed, when I began writing what would become Boy Culture as a college kid, that the story would continue with a movie and now a series,” Rettenmund said. “Revisiting these characters with this incredible cast has been a joy. I am filled with pride over this latest exciting (trust me!) chapter in the saga, and am thrilled to have such a supportive partner in Dekkoo.”

“It’s been an amazing experience to reunite the whole team that made the original film,” added co-creator and director Brocka.

We can’t wait to share this new series with fans of the original film and with the world at large. Just as the gay community has evolved, so too has Boy Culture. This exciting sequel showcases an incredibly talented new cast of actors and captures the essence of contemporary gay life in all its complexities.

Boy Culture: Generation X will premiere on Dekkoo in Fall, 2023. You can read the press release below and make sure to keep checking back! We’ll be posting more news and updates as we get closer to the official launch!

Alright show of hands – who here has not watched ‘Boy Culture’? We won’t tell anyone, promise! Alright there seems to be a few of you out there. Why haven’t you watched it?? Are you afraid of the sexiness? Do you think it looks cheesy? We promise it’s not as cheesy as you think it is. Well I mean it is, but I promise there’s more to it! Just keep reading.

Boy Culture‘ follows the adventures of a witty and droll prostitute named ‘X’. Through voice-over he takes us through his philosophies on hooking, dating in the gay world, and introducing us to his smoking hot roommates; the mega-twinky Joey with the large tongue and the possible-love-of-X’s-life Andrew (played by the always-charming Darryl Stephens). Conflict comes into play when X reveals that even though he’s in love with Andrew he can’t actually imagine having sex without getting paid. Luckily X has a new older client that seems to be good at playing the role of therapist. Enter Gregory, (played by Patrick Bauchau, a veteran actor best known for ‘A View to Kill’, but who I know best from ‘Phenomena’ which I actually watched last night coincidentally) a recluse who seems to only want to talk and not actually have sex.

Alright so what value does this movie that seems to be just another gay prostitute film contain? Well the answer is the incredibly witty, fun, and honest dialog penned by Q. Allan Brocka (‘Eating Out‘, ‘Rick & Steve’) who once again is able make a low-budget film shine through dialog that ranges from the brilliantly cheesy to really heartfelt lines that get me aww’ing every time, ‘But lesbians have it easy. Sure they have all that dyke drama, but it’s only because they give a shit about each other’.

Key points to convince you more: 3ways, hot guys, the dangers of GHB, witty old man dialog, repressed childhood memories, a black wedding, coming-out, falling in love, a really awkward sex scene, (Patrick Bauchau is totally straight and it feels really uncomfortable, but it’s hilarious I promise!) crossword puzzles, dykes with pink hair (I see you Emily Brooke Hands!), really hot back-up plans, tax evasion, road-tripping, and tea! Whew. Done. You’ve been convinced. Enjoy ‘Boy Culture‘.
