Short Film Spotlight: The Gust

Set in 2011, weeks after Hurricane María devastated Puerto Rico, this provocative, sexy and deeply moving new thirty-minute short film follows a lonely middle-aged man finds himself obsessing with his squatter neighbor, a young closeted and tormented athlete who insistently pursues his attention.

A massive hit at film festivals all around the world, writer-director Edgar Garcia’s The Gust deals with fragility issues of living in a forgotten paradise, in the world’s oldest colony, still half-torn, half-supported, with half-citizens, half-gods and half-demons.

Dekkoo Original: The Big Snore

From writer-director Matt Guerin, the filmmaker behind the short films Tri-Curious and The Golden Pin, The Big Snore is a brand-new 9-minute comedy about a problem that will be all-too-familiar to most couples who share a bed.

Marc and Julian (Scotty Murray and James Chapman) are a happy gay couple. They still have a spark. So much so that they worry their loud lovemaking will wake the neighbors. The only thing louder than their sex life, however, is Jules’ snoring. Shortly after they finish making love, Jules drifts off to sleep, blissfully unaware that his heavy breathing will keep light-sleeper Marc awake all night long.

Short Film Spotlight: Verona

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Verona is the story of two young lovers separated by their rival fraternities.

Set in a small college town wherein young men are groomed for corporate success in All-American hyper competitive fashion, Verona presents the fate of star-crossed lovers in a society that condemns the very nature of their love.

Directed by Laurie Lynd (Breakfast with Scot), Verona features star actors known from DeGrassi, All My Children, The Best Years, Paradise Falls, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Queer As Folk and more. This post-modern retelling of the greatest love story ever told brings to light the homophobic/homo-erotic dual nature of fraternity life, its perks and perils.

Verona was shot as something of a calling-card, to pave the way for public, private and corporate interest in a full-length feature film version. The project is one of passion for all those involved, hoping to present the nature of love in its truest form – and it shows.
