The acclaimed French LGBTQ+ drama Woke is back. Season 3 is now streaming on Dekkoo, bringing Hicham and Thibaut back for a darker and more ambitious chapter of the series.

Already a favorite among viewers looking for compelling gay series and international LGBTQ+ storytelling, Woke has never shied away from mixing the personal and the political. This season takes that idea even further, as both Hicham and Thibaut find themselves caught up in stories involving political violence, human rights, institutional corruption and the fight to make the truth heard.

A More Intense Chapter for Woke

Mehdi Meskar as Hicham in Woke Season 3 on Dekkoo

Over its first two seasons, Woke followed Hicham as he left his sheltered life behind and found a new community among the activists of Lyon’s G-Spot LGBTQ+ center.

Season 3 expands that world considerably.

After a relative is killed during a confrontation with police, Hicham returns to his old neighborhood in Saint-Étienne, determined to uncover what really happened. As questions surrounding the death grow, Hicham finds himself confronting not only grief and anger, but a media narrative that threatens to bury the truth.

Meanwhile, Thibaut becomes involved in an entirely different fight after saving a Chechen refugee from a potentially fatal trap.

The encounter leads him to discover a European trial program designed to protect human rights activists whose lives are in danger. But when it becomes clear that someone may be compromising the program from within, Thibaut must race to identify the source before more lives are put at risk.

From Queer Activism to Political Thriller

From the beginning, Woke has been about more than romance.

Created by Sullivan Le Postec, the French series has explored identity, friendship, desire and the complicated realities of LGBTQ+ activism through characters whose personal lives are inseparable from the causes they fight for.

That combination is part of what makes international LGBTQ+ storytelling such an important part of Dekkoo’s collection of gay movies and series. Woke approaches its characters as complicated people first, allowing its queer themes to emerge through their friendships, relationships, mistakes and struggles.

Season 3 takes that foundation and pushes the series into darker, more suspenseful territory.

The struggles facing Hicham and Thibaut are very different, but both men find themselves confronting systems powerful enough to control whose stories are believed, whose lives are protected and whose voices are heard.

The result is arguably the most ambitious and intense season of Woke yet.

For viewers who have followed Woke from the beginning, Season 3 offers the chance to see just how far both men have come since Hicham first arrived in Lyon searching for the only openly gay man he knew.

If you’re discovering the series for the first time, this is also the perfect opportunity to start from the beginning. All three seasons are available on Dekkoo, making Woke an especially good choice if you’re looking for a new gay series to watch online rather than another one-off movie.

When we first meet Hicham in Season 1, he leaves his sheltered life and family behind and heads to Lyon in search of Thibaut — the only openly gay man he knows, and someone who once tried to kiss him.

Through Thibaut, Hicham is introduced to the G-Spot, a lively LGBTQ+ center and the group of activists who call it home. What begins as Hicham’s search for another person gradually becomes something much bigger: a journey toward understanding his sexuality, finding a community and figuring out who he wants to be.

A New Chapter for Hicham

Season 2 picks up after Hicham has stepped away from both Thibaut and the G-Spot.

Then he meets Elijah.

Hicham spots him one night at a bar but misses his chance to talk to him. With a little help from Bastien, however, the two eventually reconnect — opening the door to a new chapter in Hicham’s personal life.

At the same time, things at the G-Spot are becoming increasingly complicated.

Thibaut finds himself answering for his recent actions while the future of the center itself hangs in the balance. The activists also begin organizing a Pride march centered on trans rights, a decision that exposes disagreements both inside and outside the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride, Politics and a Community Divided

Characters face conflict in Woke Season 2 on Dekkoo

One of the things that makes Woke stand apart from a more traditional gay drama is its willingness to let its characters disagree.

Season 2 explores tensions surrounding trans rights, asylum and immigration, feminism, religion and LGBTQ+ politics without forgetting that these debates affect the lives of actual people.

The proposed Pride march becomes one of the season’s central storylines. Local LGBT bar owners push back against the decision to focus the march on trans rights, while the G-Spot itself faces accusations of transphobia from a trans collective.

Meanwhile, Kenza faces possible deportation, forcing Thibaut and the others to confront another urgent fight taking place within their community.

These conflicts put friendships, alliances and even the future of the G-Spot under pressure.
