Coming next week: After the tragic death of his son, a 55-year-old police officer wants to find out more about his life.

Now Available: Entropic

Adapted from R. W. Gray’s short story of the same name, and recipient of Telefilm Canada’s Microbudget Production Grant, the brand-new feature film Entropic tells the story a beautiful man who, sick of being objectified, devises a horrific plan to free himself from the desires of those who covet him.

R. W. Gray’s isn’t just the author of the original story from which this film is based. He’s also the director. Gray has directed several short films that have appeared in festivals around the world and received acclaim. Zack & Luc, aidos, and Choke Hold all garnered wide festival play and accumulated multiple awards. Entropic is his first feature film as a director.

“I think in all my short work so far I have been exploring the themes around beauty and desire that shape Entropic, my first feature film,” said Gray. “I’ve been fascinated with short stories like Barbara Gowdy’s “We So Seldom Look on Love” and Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s “Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” where a young woman and a village, respectively, look on the bodies of their beloveds and find things sublime, even though the beloveds are dead or drowned. What does it mean to look directly upon the beloved? Is there a truth to be found or are we doomed like Roland Barthes’ amorous subject, doomed to take the clock apart in an attempt to reveal time?”

Two childhood friends reunite as adults in the romantic Argentinian drama Esteros

Sexy and heartfelt, Esteros tells the story of two men who get a second chance at love.

Childhood friends Matías and Jerónimo (played at children by Joaquín Parada and Blas Finardi Niz and as adults by Ignacio Rogers and Esteban Masturini) reunite in their hometown of Paso de los Libres, Argentina, on the banks of the Uruguay River. The summer before high school, their friendship transformed into something deeper, but their mutual attraction never came to fruition.

More than a decade later they meet again, and the chemistry between them is palpable, but now Matías has a girlfriend who has traveled to his hometown for Carnival. Seeing his old friend, now so comfortable and confident, reawakens Matías’ feelings. This unexpected opportunity forces him to reassess his choices and to figure out whether he can turn his back on marriage in favor of the man he’s always loved.

The power of music influences an intense male love triangle in The Accompanist

A troubled ballet star seeking a comeback finds his salvation in a piano accompanist who can shape shift time with his music and take people back to “where they need to be healed the most.” When the ballet dancer’s boyfriend sees the attraction between dancer and pianist, an all out war ensues to see whose love will win out.

Jason works as a piano accompanist at a local ballet studio. He is suffering from memories of a tragic car accident, and is dealing with his wife, Karen, who after moving out, is pushing for a divorce. Although his children are supportive, Jason is depressed over the fracturing of the family.

At the ballet studio, he meets troubled star Brandon, who is looking for a comeback. The attraction is palpable. Brandon is impressed by Jason’s “magic” music that somehow captivates the dancers at the studio and allows them to dance with added grace and elegance. However, Brandon’s off-again, on-again boyfriend, Adam, who is also a dancer at the studio, is insanely jealous of the attraction evident between Brandon and Jason.

Jason and Brandon begin working together at night at the studio to prepare him for upcoming auditions. Brandon learns more about Jason’s special powers to send people back in time with his piano music to “where they need to be healed the most.” As the love triangle plays out between Jason, Brandon and Adam, the lines between eroticism and violence become blurred. Unexpected events unfold where the surreal combines with the magical power of music, transforming all of their lives in the process.

Coming next week: Facing immigration issues, a couple must confront fears of rejection or risk losing each other.

Colin Morgan and Phénix Brossard star in this charming new comedy from British comedian Simon Amstell

British comedian Simon Amstell wrote and directed this charmingly offbeat romantic comedy about a mess-of-a-filmmaker juggling the anxieties and excitement of his upcoming film premiere with the fear and awkwardness of a burgeoning romance.

Gangly and neurotic, and always ready with a self-defensive quip, indie film director Benjamin (Colin Morgan, The Happy Prince, Merlin) nervously prepares for the premiere of his sophomore feature when he meets and falls for hard for Noah (Phénix Brossard, Departure, Little Joe), an young French musician. Will Benjamin’s insecurities and anxieties get in the way of success and happiness? Will his film be a citics-savaging disaster and he, a one-hit wonder?

Amstell peppers this entertaining tale with hilariously deadpan one-liners and a scene-stealing cast of supporting characters including Joel Fry (Game of Thrones) as Stephen, Benjamin’s manic-depressive stand-up comedian best friend; Jessica Raine as Billie, his unbearable publicist, Harry (Jack Rowan), his egocentric, bi lead actor; and Anna Chancellor (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pride and Prejudice) as his patient producer.

A charming, laugh-out-loud comedy, Benjamin looks at one man’s land mined road to success and love. Watch the trailer below. The film is available now on Dekkoo.

New Episodes of Bad Boy are available now!

Sort of like The Odd Couple with the fast-paced sensibility of 30 Rock, the series Bad Boy  – with new episodes now available on Dekkoo – explores the dynamic between Mack (Tony Harth), a young, dumb-ish “bad boy” with a crazy past, and Scott (Artie O’Daly), a straight-laced man Mack has chosen to adopt as his “Daddy”… much to Scott’s frustration.

Both characters are gay (Artie is in real life; Tony, sadly, is not) and gay themes and undertones are woven into the comedy.  Plus, there is a hell of a twist in store.

After releasing the first episode online, Bad Boy garnered hundreds of thousands of views. With limited resources, the creative team behind the show set out to complete what were clearly in-demand new episodes.

The lead actors originally met doing a play in Los Angeles. Artie, who also directs the series, is a prolific actor who has been on shows such as “Modern Family”, “Silicon Valley”, “The Big Bang Theory” and “General Hospital.” He also co-created the web series Successful People (which you can also watch now on Dekkoo). Tony is a recent arrival to L.A. from the state of Wisconsin and has already appeared in multiple commercials and sketches.  Together, they made Bad Boy, which took on a life of its own. Now they’re chasing it wherever it goes!

The first twelve short episodes are all available now on Dekkoo.
