Are you down with Dating My Mother?

Unemployed and living in his New Jersey hometown, brash screenwriter Danny (Patrick Reilly) spends his days doing just about everything with his mother Joan (Kathryn Erbe). But when Joan reveals she’s going to start dating again, Danny’s cushy world comes crashing down.

Dating My Mother follows the intimate and tumultuous relationship between a single mother and her gay son as they navigate the dizzying world of online dating. While they search for their versions of Mr. Right, mother and son realize that sometimes you have to pull apart in order to come together.

Written and directed as a feature-length debut by Mike Roma, who previously created the web series Danny the Manny, Dating My Mother co-stars Paul Iacono, James Le Gros and Kathy Najimy. It’s available to watch RIGHT NOW on Dekkoo!

Stream the first two seasons of Successful People

The hilarious new series Successful People comes from writers/stars Theresa Ryan & Artie O’Daly, better known as the YouTube musical duo Skip & Terri. The series revolves around Chet and Laura, a songwriting duo in their tenth year of trying to make it, who start to realize their chances of success may have already passed them by.

Laura is happily married – and very-much pregnant; Chet has gone 13 years without a boyfriend – and has no other friends to speak of. Together they’ve written some of the catchiest jingles middle America has ever heard, but a Top Ten hit for Rihanna continues to elude them.

As they encounter a variety of people who have actually achieved success, Laura fears she has begun the slow slide into “contentment.” This reignites her passion for their dream, but, as her douchey high school friend Jake points out, her soon-to-be-born baby may put a kink in her plans. And leave Chet not only friend-less, but dream-less, too.

A single-camera comedy set in Los Angeles, Successful People explores the ideas of achievement vs. contentment, if goals should have expiration dates, and what lengths someone will go to to get what they want. Each episode takes a different type of “successful person” and examines the impact they have on Laura & Chet as they work to achieve their dream.

Is there a set path to success? Do our own lives keep us from what we want? Are all successful people just assholes? With the clock ticking, Laura and Chet are willing to try anything to become the one thing they’ve never been: Successful People.

Kinky Boots is a modest little movie that launched an award-winning Broadway hit

Inspired by a hilarious true story, Kinky Boots is the refreshing, feel-good comedy that launched the multiple Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

Released in 2005, Joel Edgerton, Nick Frost and Chiwetel Ejiofor, none of whom had quite broken through to major movie stardom (but would soon).

For generations, the Price family has made very sensible, very conservative shoes for men. When young Charlie Price (Edgerton) inherits the struggling business, he turns to an unlikely new creative consultant to save the business from imminent bankruptcy: a sassy cross-dressing cabaret singer (Ejiofor), whose outrageous style and wild designs are a breath of fresh air in the stuffy old factory.

Two gay dads. One meddling tiger mom. What could go wrong?

Danny (writer-director Barney Cheng), a Taiwanese-American man, longs to have a baby with his American partner Tate (The 10-Year Plan star Michael Adam Hamilton), but their attempts at international surrogacy are complicated by Danny’s meddlesome mom (Grace Guei), who wants to control every aspect of the process – all the way from Taipei.

Series Spotlight: Eating Out

Eating Out (2004)

After getting dumped by his girlfriend, Caleb (Scott Lunsford) falls in love with Gwen (Emily Stiles). However, thanks to a fib from Caleb’s roommate Kyle (former ‘American Idol’ star Jim Verraros), Gwen thinks he’s gay and sets him up with her roommate, Marc (Ryan Carnes), whom Kyle happens to have a crush on. An outrageous comedy, Eating Out was the flick that launched an unexpected franchise.

Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds (2006)

How far would you go to get the person of your dreams? In Eating Out, Kyle convinced his straight roommate to pretend to be gay to get the girl. Now, with the help of Gwen and Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan), Kyle pretends to be heterosexual to land Troy (Marco Dapper), the new guy in town (who happens to be a nude model). He doesn’t expect, however, to find himself joining the campus ex-gay support group and nabbing a girlfriend! Kyle’s ex boyfriend, Marc, is horrified at the plan and decides to pursue the confused Troy with his own tactic – being his out gay self. Who will win him first?

Eating Out: All You Can Eat (2009)

This third installment of the series introduces us to entirely new leading men, while bringing back some of our favorite supporting characters. Casey (Daniel Skelton) tries to get closer to Zack (Chris Salvatore) using a phony online profile with a picture of his friend Tiffani’s buff ex-boyfriend, Ryan (Michael E.R. Walker)… which works fine until the real Ryan shows up. Casey needs to figure out how to set things right and grab hold of the love he’s been seeking.

Eating Out: Drama Camp (2011)

Zack and Casey’s relationship is in a slump, but things are about to change this summer at Dick Dickey’s Drama Camp! When Zack meets Benji (Aaron Milo) there is an instant connection. However, not wanting to interfere with Zack’s current relationship, Benji pretends to be straight. When Benji and Zack get cast as lovers in an updated, sexed-up version of The Taming of the Shrew, their self-restraint is put to the test. Meanwhile, Beau (Ronnie Kroell) starts crushing on Casey, leaving out central lovers wondering if they were really meant to be together in the first place. Introducing a diverse ensemble of characters, this fourth entry is an over-the-top raunchy comedy with the innocence of summer love.

Eating Out: The Open Weekend (2011)

The fifth (and, so far, final) installment in the series is just as sexy and hilarious, and five times as gay as its predecessors. Zack and Benji decide to have an “open” weekend to partake in the smorgasbord of available men on their vacation to a gay getaway in Palm Springs. When Zack runs into Casey at the resort, they both do their best to look like they are having a good time. How could they not, when they are surrounded by cute, frisky guys with six-packs and very little clothing? When Casey reacquaints with his old high school friend Peter, he convinces him to pretend to be his boyfriend to save face. As you might imagine, plenty of confusion, sexual tension and bed-hopping ensues.

Spare four minutes for Miss Moneypenny!

A delightful, candy-colored 4-minute short film from British director Oliver Mason, Miss Moneypenny is a bright and spunky comedy about gay dating.

Ben struggles to focus on the ‘So, will I see you again?’ conversation with Matt. Matt proudly peacocks his bohemian lifestyle, while Ben’s overactive mind drifts from James Bond to disaster movies. Will they find common ground, or will they continue with their separate searches for Mr Right?

Miss Moneypenny was part of the official selection at the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival in 2015. Writer-director Oliver Mason has been making short films for many years, having started out as a runner in BBC Drama. He went on to train in script development, but found his real passion lies in directing and editing. In early 2018 he launched the web series, UnPacking, with writer Matthew Hurt. His previous short film, Away with Me, was featured at the London Short Film Festival, BFI Flare London, In & Out Cannes & Nice, Inside Out Toronto, Rio Festival of Gender & Sexuality and the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. In the UK, it was included on the Peccadillo Pictures short film collection, Boys On Film 16: Possession.
