New on Dekkoo: Desire Takes Hold in A King, Gazing at the Sea

Thereโ€™s something about a stranger who catches your eyeโ€”and refuses to leave your mind.

Now streaming on Dekkoo, A King, Gazing at the Sea (Le roi qui contemplait la mer) is a sensual French gay short film from writer-director Jean-Sรฉbastien Chauvin about attraction, obsession, and the intoxicating pull of the male gaze.

A Seaside Encounter Becomes an Obsession

Paul arrives at a sun-drenched Mediterranean seaside resort looking to enjoy a few quiet moments by the water. Then he sees him: a muscular, tanned stranger whose presence immediately captures his attention.

What begins as a passing attraction gradually becomes something much more consuming.

Chauvin turns a deceptively simple encounter into a dreamy meditation on gay desire. Sun, sea, skin, stolen glances and fantasy combine to create a film that feels both intimate and slightly dangerousโ€”the kind of attraction where you’re never quite sure whether you’re watching someone or imagining an entire world around them.

Taekwondo Is Now Streaming on Dekkoo

Marco Berger and Martรญn Farinaโ€™s acclaimed gay romance Taekwondo is now streaming on Dekkoo.

Few filmmakers capture the unspoken tension between men quite like Argentine filmmaker Marco Berger. In Taekwondo, co-directed with Martรญn Farina, lingering glances, casual touches and moments of silence say almost as much as the dialogue.

The result is a slow-burning, sun-soaked story of friendship, attraction and the uncertainty that exists when neither man is quite sure what the other is thinking.

And now, Taekwondo is available to stream on Dekkoo.

A Summer Vacation Where Everything Begins to Change

Fernando is spending his vacation at a country house in Ezeiza, outside Buenos Aires, surrounded by a close-knit group of male friends.

The days are deliberately uncomplicated: swimming, drinking, smoking, talking and lounging around the house and pool. Away from their everyday responsibilities, the friends settle into the easy intimacy that comes from knowing one another for years.

But this time, Fernando has invited someone new.

Germรกn, a friend from his taekwondo class, joins the group for the vacation. What Fernando doesn’t know is that Germรกn is gay.

As the long summer days unfold, something begins developing between the two men. Glances last a little longer. Physical proximity takes on another meaning. Ordinary moments suddenly seem charged with possibilities neither man is quite prepared to acknowledge.

Taekwondo turns that uncertainty into the heart of the film.

Summer, friendship and unspoken attraction collide in Taekwondo.

The Art of the Slow Burn

Anyone familiar with the films of Marco Berger will recognize the territory.

Rather than rushing toward declarations of attraction, Berger allows desire to develop through observation. The camera notices the things his characters notice: a body across the room, an accidental touch, someone changing clothes, a glance that mayโ€”or may notโ€”mean something more.

In Taekwondo, that approach is particularly effective because Germรกn finds himself surrounded almost entirely by straight men.

The relaxed environment allows the group to talk openly about sex, relationships and their private lives. For Germรกn, however, Fernando remains something of a mystery.

Is the attraction between them mutual? Is Fernando simply affectionate with his friends? Is Germรกn imagining something that isn’t there?

Berger and Farina are in no hurry to provide the answer.

Instead, Taekwondo lets the tension build.

For viewers who love romantic LGBTQ+ movies where chemistry develops gradually rather than through conventional romantic storytelling, that’s precisely the appeal.

A Modern Favorite of Queer Cinema

Released in 2016, Taekwondo was directed by Marco Berger and Martรญn Farina, with a screenplay by Berger.

The film stars Gabriel Epstein as Germรกn and Lucas Papa as Fernando, alongside Nicolรกs Barsoff, Francisco Bertรญn, Arturo Frutos, Andrรฉs Gavaldรก, Juan Manuel Martino, Darรญo Miรฑo and Gastรณn Re.

The film traveled extensively on the international LGBTQ+ film-festival circuit, with selections including the BFI London Film Festival, Guadalajara International Film Festival, Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival, Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, Out On Film Atlanta and Mix Brasil.

It also won the Sunny Bunny Prize for Best LGBTQ Film at the Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival.

More than a decade after it was made, Taekwondo remains a memorable example of Berger’s distinctive approach to gay cinema: intimate, observant, sensual and fascinated by the complicated territory between male friendship and sexual attraction.

Oceania: A Queer Story About Memory, Discovery, and the Lives We Leave Behind

Some short films manage to create an entire world in less than half an hour. Oceania, the French short film from writer-director Valentin Noujaรฏm, is one of them.

Now streaming on Dekkoo, Oceania is a quiet, mysterious coming-of-age story about curiosity, memory, identity, and the unexpected ways one generation can leave its mark on the next.

A Summer That Takes an Unexpected Turn

Sixteen-year-old Najib isn’t exactly planning an adventurous summer.

Reserved and mostly keeping to himself, he spends his days immersed in a video game. Then his mother, Asma, tells him that their elderly Algerian neighbor has died alone.

Najib becomes curious about the man who had been living so close to him, yet remained largely a stranger.

He secretly takes the keys to the neighbor’s apartment and begins exploring what was left behind. Inside, Najib finds photographs, letters, diaries, VHS tapes, and pieces of a life he never knew existed.

What begins almost like an act of teenage trespassing gradually becomes something much more meaningful.

Discovering a Life Through What Remains

One of the most interesting things about Oceania is how little it needs to explain outright.

As Najib moves deeper into the apartment, he begins piecing together fragments of his neighbor’s past, including his loves, losses, political history, and connections to another generation.

The apartment becomes almost like an archive.

For Najib, discovering that history also becomes a way of looking at himself differently. The experiences of someone from an earlier generation begin intersecting with a teenager who is still figuring out his own place in the world.

It’s a simple idea, but Oceania gives it room to breathe.

Rather than turning Najib’s discoveries into a conventional mystery, Noujaรฏm lets photographs, recordings, objects, silence, and atmosphere do much of the storytelling.

A Film About Remembering

Memory runs through much of Valentin Noujaรฏm’s work, particularly the idea of people and communities disappearing from the histories we preserve.

That makes Oceania feel like more than a coming-of-age film.

It’s also about what happens when younger queer people encounter the lives of those who came before them.

The people, relationships, struggles, and private moments of an earlier generation can easily disappear unless someone finds them, remembers them, and carries some part of them forward.

Noujaรฏm has described Oceania as an ode to tenderness and to a new generation that remembers earlier struggles while continuing to move forward.

That idea sits quietly at the center of the film.

Najib may enter the apartment because he’s curious. What he leaves with is something much harder to define.

Meet Filmmaker Valentin Noujaรฏm

Born in France to Lebanese and Egyptian parents, Valentin Noujaรฏm studied screenwriting at La Fรฉmis in Paris.

His work frequently explores memory, disappearance, marginalized communities, identity, and the traces people leave behind.

His previous films include Pacific Club, which explores the largely forgotten history of a Paris nightclub created for Arabs from the city’s suburbs. His work has appeared at international film festivals including Rotterdam, BlackStar, BAFICI, and DocLisboa.

With Oceania, Noujaรฏm brings many of those larger ideas about memory and history into a surprisingly intimate story about a teenager opening the door to someone else’s apartment and discovering an entire life on the other side.

A Small Film With a Much Bigger World Inside It

At just 24 minutes, Oceania doesn’t overstay its welcome.

It’s thoughtful without becoming heavy-handed, mysterious without needing to explain everything, and emotional without forcing the audience toward a particular reaction.

There’s also something especially fitting about discovering a film like this as a short. Queer short films have long given filmmakers room to tell stories and explore characters that might struggle to find space in more conventional feature filmmaking.

They’re an important part of what we love sharing at Dekkoo: films from around the world that offer a perspective, character, or story you probably aren’t going to stumble across everywhere else.

Oceania certainly fits that description.

Where to Watch Oceania

Oceania is now streaming on Dekkoo.

The film runs approximately 24 minutes, is in French with English subtitles, and stars Adil Bettahrat as Najib alongside Darina Al Joundi and Steven Yan.

If you’re drawn to queer coming-of-age stories, international LGBTQ+ cinema, or films that leave you with something to think about after the credits roll, give this one 24 minutes.

We think you’ll be glad you did.

Red Yellow Pink: A Powerful Gay Drama About Family, Faith and Acceptance โ€” Now Streaming on Dekkoo

What happens when the person who loves you most struggles to accept who you are?

That question lies at the heart of Red Yellow Pink, a provocative European gay drama from writer-director Jolanta Warpechowski that explores the complicated intersection of sexuality, religion, family and acceptance.

The 2020 film is now streaming on Dekkoo, joining our growing collection of gay films from around the world.

Two Different Worlds Under One Roof

At the center of Red Yellow Pink is Maciej, a gay man played by David Paul, and his strictly Roman Catholic mother, played by Agnieszka Salamon.

Mother and son inhabit two very different worlds.

For Maciej, being gay is simply part of who he is. For his mother, deeply rooted religious convictions make accepting her son’s sexuality far more complicated. Their opposing perspectives create a painful conflict that forces both of them to confront questions about prejudice, faith and the limits โ€” or perhaps the resilience โ€” of familial love.

Can love survive when two people see the world so differently?

That’s the question Red Yellow Pink isn’t afraid to ask.

A Gay Story About More Than Coming Out

Coming-out stories have long been an important part of LGBTQ+ cinema, but Red Yellow Pink focuses on something that can be even more complicated: what happens afterward.

Acceptance doesn’t always arrive at the moment someone comes out. For some families, it becomes a much longer journey.

Red Yellow Pink explores that uncomfortable space between love and rejection, particularly when religious beliefs collide with a parent’s relationship with their gay child. Rather than separating those issues into easy categories, the film places them within the messy dynamics of a family.

It’s a subject that will feel familiar to many LGBTQ+ viewers, especially anyone who has had to reconcile their identity with the religious or cultural expectations of the people closest to them.

Inspired by Real Stories

Writer and director Jolanta Warpechowski has said that Red Yellow Pink is based on two real stories.

That real-world inspiration is particularly fitting for a film concerned with experiences that continue to play out in LGBTQ+ families across cultures: the desire to be accepted, the fear of rejection and the sometimes difficult process of finding common ground.

Born in Poland, Warpechowski studied theater science in Vienna and film directing in Krakรณw. Her work has frequently confronted subjects including sexuality, migration, religion, violence and LGBTQ+ life.

With Red Yellow Pink, those interests come together in an intimate story about a gay son and the mother struggling to understand him.

International Gay Cinema on Dekkoo

Produced across Poland and Austria, Red Yellow Pink is part of a long tradition of international LGBTQ+ filmmaking that offers audiences a glimpse into gay lives beyond their own borders.

The specifics of language, religion and culture may change from country to country, but many of the questions at the heart of the film are universal.

How much should someone have to sacrifice to maintain a relationship with their family?

Can deeply held beliefs change?

And when acceptance seems impossible, can love still provide a path forward?

These are difficult questions, and they’re precisely the kind that have made gay drama movies such an enduring part of queer cinema.

Why Watch Red Yellow Pink?

If you’re drawn to gay movies that explore complicated family relationships rather than offering easy answers, Red Yellow Pink is worth discovering.

It’s a story about homosexuality and religion, but it’s also about something broader: the expectations parents place on their children and what happens when the person a child becomes doesn’t fit the life a parent imagined for them.

At its center is the hope that understanding might still be possible โ€” even when two people begin worlds apart.

Red Yellow Pink runs approximately 89 minutes and is presented in Polish with English subtitles.

Tethered Wings Brings a Powerful Story of First Love and Second Chances to Dekkoo

Scene from the Dekkoo exclusive film Tethered Wings

Some love stories never truly let go. Thatโ€™s the emotional heartbeat behind Tethered Wings on Dekkoo, the newest addition to Dekkoo Originals & Exclusives โ€” a deeply moving French drama about memory, regret, and the lasting power of first love.

Set across two timelines, Tethered Wings follows Paul, a man preparing for his wedding when he is suddenly confronted by Joseph, the boy he once loved and lost decades earlier. Their unexpected reunion reopens emotional wounds tied to a transformative summer in 1983 โ€” a summer marked by passion, longing, and devastating homophobia that permanently altered the course of both their lives.

Directed by Thierry Binisti, Tethered Wings (originally titled Les Ailes Collรฉes) blends tender romance with emotional suspense, gradually revealing the painful truth behind Paul and Josephโ€™s separation. The film explores how queer love can shape an entire lifetime โ€” even when buried beneath decades of silence.

Fans of emotionally rich LGBTQ+ dramas like Weekend, Free Fall, and The Bubble will find a lot to love here. The chemistry between the younger and older versions of Paul and Joseph gives the film a haunting emotional continuity, while its themes of forbidden love, identity, and lost time feel painfully universal.

What makes Tethered Wings especially compelling is the way it balances intimacy with emotional tension. The film isnโ€™t simply about rekindled romance โ€” itโ€™s about confronting the life you built after abandoning the life you truly wanted. Through flashbacks and present-day reckonings, Tethered Wings becomes a story about survival, forgiveness, and whether love can still endure after years of repression and fear.

The arrival of Tethered Wings continues Dekkooโ€™s commitment to bringing acclaimed international LGBTQ+ cinema to audiences looking for bold, emotional, and authentically queer storytelling. Alongside recent exclusives like Night Stage and beloved titles across the platformโ€™s growing collection of gay movies and series, the film adds another unforgettable story to Dekkooโ€™s curated lineup.

Whether youโ€™re drawn to sweeping queer romance, emotionally layered coming-of-age stories, or powerful international dramas, Tethered Wings is one you wonโ€™t want to miss.
