A new 20-minute short film from Iran, And Just Two More concerns an unusual relationship.

Iman Niknam stars in the film as a trash collector who lives in a small trailer at the top of a hill. At first glance, his may seem like a lonely existence. However, he has the company of his dog and his lover… who just happens to be a mannequin.

When he learns that the Iranian government is conducting an important nation-wide census, he becomes determined to add his mannequin lover as a properly recognized citizen.

Funny and surprisingly heartfelt, And Just Two More comes from writer-director Ali Reza Mohammadi Rouzbahani, an up-and-coming filmmaker with style to spare who has recently earned acclaim on the international film festival circuit for his feature length debut Singo.

Two former lovers reunite in paradise in the colorful new romance 8 Years

The debut feature of Spanish writer-director JD Alcázar, 8 Years is a sexy and bittersweet gay romance set against a gorgeous, sun-soaked tropical paradise.

Jose and David (Miguel Diosdado and Carlos Mestanza) were once deeply in love. For seven years, their romance grew and blossomed, through highs and lows – before they ultimately broke up.

Months later, haunted by memories of their past, the former couple visit the island of La Palma, where they originally met for the first time. Wanting to celebrate what would have been their eighth anniversary, they plan to explore new places together with the hopes of forging a friendship out of the dying embers of their old love.

But Jose and David didn’t expect the complicated emotions that would awaken between them throughout a journey full of enigmatic characters and sublime landscapes.

Short Film Spotlight: Brothers

Filmed in both France and Russia in 2015, Brothers is an frenetically-paced dark comedy about one gay couple’s alarming and deeply absurd existential crisis.

When boyfriends Damien and Francois attend a brunch, they’re dismayed to learn that the host doesn’t think they look like a couple. Wondering what that could possibly mean, Francois begins to spiral.

When the pair take an impromptu sightseeing vacation to Moscow, they fear being persecuted for their sexuality and decide to tell people that they are brothers. When strangers begin informing them that they don’t look like brothers, Francois’s frantic emotions lead him down an increasingly dangerous path.

Directed with great pathos by Robert Ly, Brothers offers up a strange and bleakly funny cautionary tale about caring too much what other people think.

A youth pastor searches for redemption in the faith-based indie comedy The Road to Edmond

From director David Trotter and co-writer/star Tripp Fuller, The Road to Edmond is a provocative faith-based indie film that follows a youth pastor on a life-changing road trip after his church puts him on a two-week timeout.

Nathanael Welch stars as Cleo, a youth pastor in suburban Denver who finds himself in trouble when a gay teen seeks his counsel. When he shows genuine support, he finds that his job is soon in jeopardy. The church’s Elder Board becomes aware of the situation and demands that he take two weeks off to consider his actions and the impact on his role in ministry.

Distraught by the arrival of this news via email, Cleo grabs a backpack and bike to hit the road and figure out what’s really true. His journey takes a turn toward Edmond, Oklahoma, when he hitches a ride from a mysterious traveler named Larry and his dead father. Larry’s intense skepticism along with a string of peculiar signs, causes Cleo to question more than his relationship with the teen… he begins to question the very existence of love.

Two slash fiction writers check their taboos at the door in the crowd-pleasing comedy Slash

In Slash, writer-director Clay Liford’s charming new comedy-of-age comedy, Michael Johnson stars as Neil, a high school kid who struggles to fit in with his peers.

Expressing himself through writing, his fantasies follow a sci-fi action hero named Vanguard. A character with a strong hold on Neil’s imagination, Vanguard travels to far off planets where his battles for justice often devolve into shirtless skirmishes that embrace same-sex entanglements.

Passionate about “Slash,” otherwise known as erotic fan fiction, Neil is ostracized at school but soon finds a kindred spirit in Julia, played by Hannah Marks. Julia is a fellow slasher who gets her kicks from “Fain Elven” fiction. Embracing Neil as her protégé of sorts, the duo explore an unusual writerly passion.

Soon, a Comic Con-bound journey of self-exploration has them checking all of their taboos at the door.
